Anatomy of a Sit-On-TopYour Ocean Kayak boat has basic features. The front of the boat is the bow and the rear is the stern. When looking forward to the bow, the left side of the boat is port and the right side of the boat is starboard. The hull serial number can be found on the starboard side of the boat, on the bow. In the middle of the boat, there is a cockpit area with a seat (towards the stern) and foot wells (toward the bow). Inside the cockpit, there are holes that go all of the way through the boat called scuppers. These scuppers allow the boat to drain. On many of the models, there is a bungee in the front of the cockpit and behind the seat. This allows you to secure gear to the deck of the boat. Your particular model may have hatches that allow access to the inside of the boat for gear storage. Some models feature a molded-in tank well for dive tanks or small ice chests. Alongside the cockpit are a series of small "U" cleats, called accessory strap eyes. These are used to attach accessories to the boat, such as backrests and knee braces.

Fishing SpecificMore and more anglers are using sit-on-top kayaks to land the big one. Ocean Kayak has become one of the most popular fishing kayaks in the world. Why? We offer larger tank wells for storage, comfortable seating, large, roomy hatches and plenty of deck space to mount fish finders, rod holders and everything else you need for fishing fun. Ocean Kayak has a variety of angler specific features available on many of our angler edition models. A transducer compatible scupper is an enlarged, molded in scupper that has been specially modified to accommodate a transducer. The unique Rod Pod™ hatch system keeps your fishing rods protected from the elements and provides easy access to them while you are seated in the boat. The Sonar Shield™ storage compartment is a place to store your fish finder under a protective covering during transit or through the waves and then pop up the fish finder and use the shield to reduce the glare of sunlight for an easier screen reading. A battery bag storage system is found just inside the bow hatch on some models and is designed to conveniently house the battery of your fish finder.
