starting from the bottom up the hull design has changed from its older predecessors and in doing so has produced a kayak which is not only faster but alot more stable , the hull is tri-formed has a venturi scupper holes for rapid draining , has a slightly flared bow, and extra volume providing more lift for a drier ride , the transducer scupper hole has been modified to fit many fish finder transducers , i set mine in silicone for a good fit and no drag, there is a removable wear strip as well. above the water line are more new features the culmination of 18 months development by kayak fishermen for serious kayak fishing's
there are solid handles (no snagging on toggles).
front bungee, flip over hatch, with a large dry storage area.
recessed bun-geed container holders a live bait well , 4 rod holders ,and many threaded brass inserts for customization without the need for drilling holes, a massive 1.1 meter well for those big fish (i wish ;D)
since buying this kayak (many thanks AL & Mich from the kayak fishing shack ;D) i have been blighted by bad &cold weather and so have only launched 3 times since January 2013 .
when we launched at filey
i found the ultra to be very fast & stable even when ploughing through some very lumpy water , ;D past the Brigg, i anchored/drifted and clipped onto a buoy in search of fish in 108 feet of water
i had a good day with good company and caught some fish ;D
the ultra 4.7 gave me confidence performed flawlessly and is a joy to use ;D ;D
i recently went to south landing at flamborough i saw someone in the distance and soon closed the gap only to find it wasn't a fellow yakker but a small fishing boat i was surprised how quickly i covered the distance and again drifted and caught some fish ;D,
the only negative i can find and its just me being picky is its about 5lb heavier than my old kayak but then it is 3 foot longer .
all in all in my opinion a very good kayak capable of being used in any fishing situation :off shore, diving, camping etc ;D ;D
cheers
Steve
