Myself and Mike Taylor needed to visit the Kayak Fishing Shack the other day and with Dacre Lake being 4 mins drive down the road it would be rude not to of taken the kayaks! It was a foggy and very cold start to the day, the plan was to fish deadbaits and lures for Pike plus try ultralights for Perch.
Though I had Mackerel, Sardines, Roach and Smelts I only fished with Mackerel throughout the day. Glenn (Cartman) kindly sent me a pm with locations of a few deeper holes so with that in mind I went searching for the features. Found a small hole dropping to 25ft, deadbait straight in but nothing showing. Most of my lure fishing was done with soft plastics, Storm 5" Shad being used the most but again nothing showing interest.
There was no wind so a flat calm lake meant it would be a perfect chance to try the Cuda seat in the high position, though it made the kayak feel relatively 'tippy' (well, for the Cuda anyway!) the higher seating position did come with some advantages. One being it was even more comfortable, two the increased angle meant you could see the lake bed easier in the clear water and thirdly the extra storage. I fitted 4 large boxes of lures under the seat plus a small anchor, normally would of been in the rear tankwell but being under the seat made for very easy access. Very pleased with that
Fog was starting to lift but it was still a bit fresh! Lovely though.

Despite our best efforts the fish weren't playing ball, lures big and small, deadbaits, you name it they didn't want it! Only managed 4.5hrs before my feet were numb with the cold so called it a day, still it was nice to be out freshwater kayak fishing again. Hopefully next time the fish will take an active role in the day!
