Last year for this meet I had a plan. I had spent days creating this plan and it was bound to work. I had a special groundbait, special swimfeeders, special bait droppers, special spoons, special beads, special baits, special sequins, special hooks and special weights. I was having very special thoughts…..I blanked.
This year started well. The turnout was great, the weather looked good. It was great to see everyone and catch up on news and gossip but by 9.30 I was rearing to get fishing.
This year it was back to basics. One rod with a two hook paternoster on it. One rod with a running ledger. No extras, no bling just a ragworm on the hook
I headed to basically the same spot as everyone else and had a small bite within 15 minutes but missed it. Dizzy had a good flounder very quickly, then another smaller one so the fish were around. Soon after I had another bite but sat on my hands to let it develop. Fish on, and the first flounder in the bag. The bites were pretty constant and I soon had number two in the yak. People started to drift away from this spot and the bites had dried up.
A quick move for the last hour resulted in one more flounder and a small bass. But I was given a master class by Dorado who caught 4 good flounders in about 30 minutes.
Coming back into the beach it soon became clear that some good fish had been caught.
Of my three the best went 355mm which gave me eight place. A vast improvement on last year, but still a lot to learn.
Well done to Scott on winning with a very nice fish, around 2 and a half pound. Obviously following in his dads footsteps.
It was good to show off the Cuda. Paul came to the meet especially to have a look and play on it and looks to be joining the Cuda club in the new year. There was some very positive feedback as people had a variety of misconceptions about it.
Again a massive thanks to Ben and Lofty for organising this meet and more cash raised for a worth cause.
